Is it possible for the attribute editor to perform just like the attribute spreadsheet? That is: simultaneously change the value of attributes on multiple selected objects?

no but the channelbox does. Tehcnically theres no reason for the ae not to do this except it is underlinedly just doing things to one nodes hostory so maybe thats just as well.

Also, if you need more attribute control, you can use the Attribute Spreadsheet.  Great tool for making changes to many nodes at once!
