Hello, I'm going to be working on an animation that requires a fairly realistic human character, and I'm wondering if someone could please offer advice about whether or not I would (most likely) be ahead work-wise to buy a pre-rigged and textured character that was created in Maya 2008 to use in Maya 2012, rather than creating one from scratch? It's hard to find useable characters for sale, and the one I found that I might be able to make work, as it turns out, was created in 2008, and I'm using 2012. So I'm wondering if it would it save me work to do it this way, or is this a bad idea? I expect it will need some kind of work to bring it up to date, but how much should I expect it to need? It seems like it would save a ton of work for me.

Also, I'll need to edit the look of the face, and make adjustments in the body... How much can I edit the look of the model without loosing the rigs functionality?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you so much (in advance!)

(btw, If anyone knows a store where I can get fairly realistic human models for Maya 2012, could you please let me know? Thank you!)

I think it’s not a problem to bring character which was made in 2008 version of maya to 2012 coz problem comes when you bring character which made in 2012 to 2008 version of maya.. i brought alots of character which was made in earlier version of maya to 2011 and 2012.. and i didn't face any problem..  And about editing face of the rigged character you must ask this question from creator of that rig and also if you have doubt in any way ask him/her before purchasing...
