Stifled smile is one of the most charming expressions in humans, so I decide to recreate it. I used Zbrush for sculpting and texturing (which are all hand-painted), Mental Ray for rendering, Maya Hair and Fur, and Photoshop for compositing separate layers and color correction.

Hi Comar 93, thanks for the comment. The lighitings is most simple: there\'s an area light and a spot light for the subtle Rim Light under the chin. For the skin material I used misss_fast_skin. There\'s difuse color, subdermal, epidermal. Specular I rendered separately and composited later in photoshop, that way I have better control over it. Hope this helps, if you have further questions, please ask. Regards, Alex

Hi Alex. The rim light is the one causing the shadow under the chin? Is the same light hitting the collarbone area the same one as the chin light? How about for the dress? Same light also? The target area of your area light is basically the face and the middle part of the head hair? Sorry for the detailed questions. I just want to understand your work exactly. Thanks. David

I forgot... I when I viewed the larger version of your work, I noticed that you can still improve on your eyelashes. They look like lines simply drawn to a flat space. I can\'t say how to do it because I don\'t know how to make it more photo realistic (I\'m assuming that is your goal here). Maybe the bottom part of the eyelash could be slightly thicker. Maybe in the paint effects group there is a way... Just helping to make your work perfect. Cheers. :) David P.S. BTW, did you use a reference photo? I was wondering if I could see it. Just so I can see how close the finished work is compared to the reference. If you don\'t mind that is. I would like to learn how to do something similar. If not, sorry I asked. I just thought it would be a good learning example. :)

Hi Brownbear, The rim light is very subtle, it\'s the one causing the outline of the chin, you can barely notice it. The main light is the one that\'s lighting up the whole face and causing shadows. It\'s the same light for every object in the scene. The eyelashes are simply geometry with a black Blinn slapped on it and I agree I could improve on that part. I did not use any particular photoreference; rather you can say I used a whole bunch of different ones, trying to pick out the things I liked. Thank you very much for your comment, hope that answers your questions. Regards, Alex

Hi, what I say U have create a amazing, charming expressions.that is great work no word to say that ............... just a simple word to describe that \"marvelous\"

beautiful work after being mesmerized for a while, i think the only bit that stands out as unnatural is the ultra smooth upper eyelid margin to lower margin of eyebrow. stunning. cg will put models out of business, eventually :)

wow, pretty good!

If I could comment on one thing it would be the contrast in the areas of the mascara. It is a little bit to high. If you blurred it a bit I think it would be close to perfect...
