I started this project a long long time ago and have worked on it on and off. Ihave no idea how long I ever actually spent on it but probably way too long. It’s always been my experimental piece so a lot of the stuff on here I hadn’t tried before at the time. It took me down some rabbit holes between not having a strong enough computer to complete the sculpt at one point, obsessing over color detail from all angles thinking about maybe a 3D print or animated poster which lead to wanting to attempt a real hair sim (which ended up being a deep deep rabbit hole, but I settled on a sculpt with a little paint over in the final image here). I decided I finally wanted to wrap up this project so I spent a week wrapping it up and putting together renders for this composite.
The models were started in Maya and finished in Zbrush. Textures were started in Photoshop and finished in Zbrush and Cinema 4D Body Paint and are all hand painted. Final renders we created in Maya Mental Ray and composites in Photoshop. The only minor airbrushing is applied to the hair and feathers, and a couple small composite mask bleeds around the rock.

Juicy Jihad Editor's Pick
Hello everyone
First I have to mention, that this picture has no political intent, so nobody should feel offended :-)
I just wanted to show another way for preparing some fresh and healthy fruit juice.
I've to admit that it looks somehow similar to my last pic, the rabbit, but the sunny and calm mood just fits the scene.
modeling was done with Silo2, rendering in c4d and the post in after
effects, because I really like the possibility to change every effect,
filter, etc. at any state of the project.
I hope it puts a little smile on your face and that you will show it to your or someone elses children ;-)
Critique is very welcome, so don't hesitate an give it to me!
greets

wild338, going California Editor's Pick
A job found me few months ago. Yeah, it works that way. And although
I'm kind of a bear, I decided to leave my cocoon for a while and accept
the adventure.
The location was tempting I shall confess, so here I am crossing the ocean and moving to Venice, California, in a few days now.
To celebrate this I've decided to create a picture. Basically, this is
me, 10 years older and 140 years ago, as a european dude moving for the
goldrush. Hey it's not about the money (especially as far as the Euro
goes...) !!
Thanks to my fella Fox who inspired me in creating a new CG
illustration (understand more 3D, less 2D). This is kind of an exercise
for me, pushing my limits a bit further, experimenting, etc... in order
to feel more comfortable at work, and also to be faster for my regular
illustration works.
Still, there is a lot of post process in Photoshop to put more groove
in the final image, mostly for the colours, levels and stuff.
Background is a matte painting.
Character started from my CG double from the Tattoo project. Zbrush for
detailling and aging. Same process for the clothes. 600meg of textures.
Mental ray, 3 points lighting with a slight HDRI addon. That's it.
kinda classic you may say.
Hope you'll enjoy.
This is kind of a breakdown compared to the regular hero stereotype
thingy, but eh! At least it's real. Well, as real as one can be, pushed
into CG.

Murphy Editor's Pick
I always wanted to create robocop so i decided to make an image with him. I
wanted to make him look 'alive' with him looking directly at the viewer in a
portrait style shot. My main focus was the eyes. Its very important to create
the feeling of thoughts running through his mind. I hope you like the image. I
used Zbrush,3dmax, mental ray and photoshop to create the image.18706 Views

Happy easter, everyone!
Painting eggs and hiding them in the garden is pretty boring.
And so it comes, that the easterfest is for kids only. But if easter
would be more like on the pic above, i think it would be much more fun
;-)
I had much fun doing the pic. the modeling was done in Silo, Rendering in C4D and the post in photoshop.
the lighting is just pure radiosity and AO.
even if the picture isn't complex, I hope you like it anyway.

Lions Editor's Pick
Just an illustration with the lions.
I used Maya for modeling, MR for rendering and Shave and Haircut for fur.
Textures, compositing and postwork with Photoshop.
The original image resolution is 3800x2375 and it took forever to render it out!;)
For the main pass I used medium quality render settings with FG and DOF.
The shadow raytracing quality wasn't high enough so I had to do some postwork to fill some "black" pixel.
I blurred some hard edges and make some correction to the contrasts and color gamma.
Finally I 've rendered the occlusion pass in separate parts and composited in Photoshop.
I hope you like the final result:)
C&C are welcome
