Editor's Pick
Gallery
I started this project a long long time ago and have worked on it on and off. Ihave no idea how long I ever actually spent on it but probably way too long. It’s always been my experimental piece so a lot of the stuff on here I hadn’t tried before at the time. It took me down some rabbit holes between not having a strong enough computer to complete the sculpt at one point, obsessing over color detail from all angles thinking about maybe a 3D print or animated poster which lead to wanting to attempt a real hair sim (which ended up being a deep deep rabbit hole, but I settled on a sculpt with a little paint over in the final image here). I decided I finally wanted to wrap up this project so I spent a week wrapping it up and putting together renders for this composite.
The models were started in Maya and finished in Zbrush. Textures were started in Photoshop and finished in Zbrush and Cinema 4D Body Paint and are all hand painted. Final renders we created in Maya Mental Ray and composites in Photoshop. The only minor airbrushing is applied to the hair and feathers, and a couple small composite mask bleeds around the rock.

Thirsty? Editor's Pick
Done for a compositing challenge in the Danish 3D community at 3dmaxer.dk. We had a week to complete, and in the voting, this entry won.
We were given a photo (look further down the page) to use as a plate to put anything we wanted into. My eyes caught the water hose and a cactus that looked human in the background, and from there the idea of a thirsty cactus desperate to get water developed.
I rendered out different passes from Blender, and composited and retouched a bit in Photoshop. Before putting the 3D in, I had retouched the original photo, removing all flowers and giving the whole thing a more worn out appearence to fit the mood better.
This was the original photo that was given to use as plate:

the silent killer Editor's Pick
This piece was done for a contest at the Danish 3D community 3dmaxer.dk with the theme The Silent Killer. I quickly decided that I wanted to do an alternative interpretation of the subject (which sadly meant no cool, dangerous and sneaky ninjas for my part). :)
"the silent killer" focuses on a very silent killer that we all can be very sure will get us someday: Time. It is one of the things in life we can be completely certain of - it will not last forever. The old man in the picture is on the edge of life, reflecting upon his past. Sadly though, not all pass away of natural courses, but most do, and I wanted to show that in this piece.
I worked pretty hard for about a month on this to get it done in time for the deadline. The image is composited, retouched and post-processed upon in Photoshop. Due to the deadline things like subtle hair strands on the old man's head and his sweater had to be painted in afterwards.

green sea turtle Editor's Pick
My first zbrush model rendered in maya. This is a private project. I wanted to give zBrush a try but i am not too much interested in the alien, dragon and monster thing you see a lot.
I used details reference pics i took in Beijing aquarium. All texture are painted in Photoshop, the lores model was done in maya.
See /zbrush/tutorials/project_walkthroughs/making-a-green-sea-turtle-329.html for details.
I rendered in 2K resolution and several passes and put them together with Photoshop.
