Exporting OBJ sequence as animated FBX?

Date:11/23/2016

Hello!

Your OBJ sequence importer is a huge lifesaver to me, though only if I can then turn around and export the OBJ sequence as an animated FBX file. So far it looks like that's not working -- trying to export it is causing only the first frame to export, no matter what options I select in the FBX export options. Is it possible to bake the animation down such that it can be exported as an FBX or something of that sort?

Thanks!

I think there is not a straight forward method to achieve what you ask. At least I do not know for now. One think you can do (but this only works with objects which topology does not change over time i reckon). I do not know what can of animation are you importing into maya and the topology of the objects. The method I think is viable is baking the animation to a blendshape. There are many tools here in creativecrash to do that. I did a test with this one: https://www.creativecrash.com/maya/script/jhbakegeo and it worked. Give it a go. Let me know if that works for you. I'll keep thinking

I'm trying to bake out, basically, a fluid simulation that I've turned into an Alembic file. At the end I need it to be an FBX without the related Alembic metadata. So I've found that I can go Alembic -> OBJ -> ? The problem is that, obviously, the topology changes a lot (not the total vert count, but vert locations etc) so I'm not sure if Blendshapes will work... I'm not sure. Any ideas you have here would be so helpful. Please let me know if you have any thoughts or whatever. This would be huge.
