I love this rig. Great controls, great range of motion. Awesome for practicing action shots. I have 2 on my reel that can be seen here: www.bradwarrenanimator.com -

Nice job on the rig! I like how it's very simple with little to get in the way of posing There are, however, a few things I'd like to point-out/request: 1] The COG controller is a bit to tightly-spaced around the robot's pelvis. It would be a lot easier to grab that controller if it were bigger than the pelvis (in X and Z) 2] Also, it would be nice to have 1 or 2 more controllers within the COG (just stacked beneath the current one) in order to allow layering COG animation 3] The chest itself needs a controller for it. It's currently not possible to pose a nice "S" shape to his spine because there is no supporting controller for the chest. I'm not asking for a stretchy-spine -- just a controller for the chest for rotations 4] The shoulder controllers are not as useful as they could be. Right now, it's impossible to have the robot do a proper "shrug". The shoulder controllers need to have their centers at the middle of the chest (not directly middle, but "middle" in terms of the X-axis) 5] The finger rotations need to be opened up quite a bit more. There is not enough control given to the animator to pose them properly. The Thumbs sliders, in particular, rotate the joints in a very strange mix of axes 6] Speaking of fingers, it would be nice to have "splay" controls to widen his fingers apart from each other. 7] When I switch from IK to FK on the foot controls, the legs slide to what looks like a different default pose 8] It would be awesome to have a separate "Hips" controller so that, when IK is active on both legs, the Hip ctrl would just rotate the pelvis, but keep the upper-body where it is (useful when posing the robot standing, but keeping weight on just one leg) 9] I know that this is a robot with rigid body-parts, but don't be afraid to weight it if you're finding that parts of him intersect. It'll look fine when animated Nice rig so far! Keep it up! -

Roboter is a very useful rig and is really fun to animate. Great job ! One thing that can make it better is to add a way to select all controlers easily (FK + IK controlers). I made an animation with it, you can see it in my blog : https://www.olivier-vuil.com/blog/?p=221 Enjoy ! -

It looks like the rig has been updated for Maya 8.5. I opened it and have had no problems whatsoever, and it does not cause any lag for me either. Even on the higher divisions setting, the only lag I see is when you move the entire rig, and that's just a slight lag. I love how cool this rig looks. And for some reason, I really like that you can control his toes indepently lol. -

1. There is no way to select the robot's controls directly in a window - you have to go into Outliner or Heirarchy to get at them. 2. The head controls are rotated on the X Axis, making smooth motion in anything but the forward-and-back direction nearly impossible to create 3. There doesn't seem to be any way to manipulate one arm or one leg, just both at the same time. 4. The arm controls are at the character's feet, making it difficult to work with. Once all of the above are addressed, this will be a killer rig, as it works well even on an older machine. Looking forward to future updates. -

Used your rig and I really liked how clean and simple it was. A couple problems though. 1) Fingers rotate/curl really slow, it takes forever to make a pose with his fingers. 2) Seems like a couple controls are redundant around his shoulders. 3) Not really a problem but it would be great if there was a way to show he speaks, no blend shapes but maybe a jaw on the piece on his face. Just up and down would be handy. Thanks for the great rig, I have a short animation of him on my site. https://www.philjohn.blogspot.com/ -
