non-destructive update (without losing user env, marking menus, hot keys, shelves)
i know this is not simple.. but let us break it down, and see whats more doable :
from users point of view : people need a small may9 ui (maybe inside maya preferences :) or simple menu ) to check for latest version, and update.
from ma9 point of view :
0. need to check OS
1. need to download updated version
2. * understand user custom preferences.
3. need to activate a script on Maya closing that backup maya user folder
4* update may9 files and keep user :env file, user marking menus, hot keys, shelves
this is a suggestion after a long day, so u can ignore it :)

i updated to 1.6.0
my first step : was going to maya pref to active panel tool bar & enable mouse wheel.
second step : add my custom hotkeys
is there a way to append mhk file? to avoid adding hotkeys one by one.

the fast way to merge hotkey in Maya is by using a compare software: https://www.scootersoftware.com
