SkinCage - Cannot find procedure "softSelect".

Hi I'm using Maya 2008 and get the error message...I'm trying to run the skincage option.

In https://www.creativecrash.com/downloads/advancedskeleton/bugs/152#tabs

it was suggested that to remove the two lines below in advancedSkeleton.mel

if (`whatIs softSelect`!="Unknown")
softSelect -e -softSelectEnabled 0;

i don't see those two lines but can see


if (`exists softSelect`)
softSelect -e -softSelectEnabled 0;

I took these out but still getting
// Error: Cannot find procedure "softSelect". //
