11.
Go to the frame when the man smiles. At this fame the marker is placed
inconveniently in the dimple crease of his cheek. This is the hardest
part of the plate to match so we will use it to enter the values for
the move2d node. I have found that an xPan value of 5.5 and yPan of 16
works pretty well. Set these values and also set the blur value to
about 20, this will feather the edge of the RotoShape making the
transition between front and back more difficult to perceive. (make
sure that not to use too much blur or you will make the centre of the
RotoShape too transparent )
Scrub through the clip and check that the colour and look of the repaired section is working.
When you arrive at the frame where the hand covers the region we have just worked on you will see that we have a problem. The hand now looks odd because we are revealing a slipped background where it is no longer necessary. This is easy to fix.
12. Back up to the previous frame and set a key on the KeyMix percentage attribute at its default value of 100. Move foreword to the offending fame and change this value to 0 and set a key. Fixed.
13. Rename the RotoShape and stabilize nodes to make them unique. Save your file and repeat this process for the other 3 dots!
You will notice that I have combined the RotoShapes for the leftDot and topDot together using a max node and used the same move2d to slip the background input of this plate. Its a little bit more efficient! I have also added a fade node here as the leftDot is covered up by the hand one frame before the top dot. Essentially this is doing the same this as key framing the KeyMix percentage but without the need for an extra KeyMix.
Once I had done this my tree looked like this:
At this stage the removal is almost done. However there is still a one frame in which the hand wipe causes problems, because the thumb is so close to the markers that leaving the background visible which will cause a disturbance. Therefore I have set the animation on the KeyMix percentage for these nodes one frames a frame earlier, causing them to pop back into shot. I will use a quickpaint fix up on this frame to solve this !
1. Append a quickpaint node to the bottom of your tree and set paint mode to clone. Make sure that the paint mode is set to frame, as we only want to paint this frame. Use your hotkeys to position your clone region just above or to the right of the marker dots and paint out the dots in two separate strokes.
2. Save your scene and flipbook the clip to check the result. If you are happy append a file out node to the tree to export the clean plate for part2 of the tutorial. I recommend using .iff as it is Shakes native format.
