Organized Hierarchy

Hey Dustin, My name is Alex, I'm a modeler and rigger at a small 3D studio. I've used your Rapid Rig on and off for the last couple years starting when I was still in school, and every time I've gone in and manually moved the hierarchy around for a more clean file. For example, I like to have only one joint hierarchy for the bound joints, one hierarchy for IK joints, and one for FK joints. I also like to make sure that the control curves are in a separate hierarchy from the joints. I'm not sure how much trouble that would be, but it would be amazingly helpful and cut down on my rigging time. Have you used Anzovin's The Setup Machine (TSM)? One of the things I love best about the their rigging system is that you have the option of building the different parts of the body separately in case you have a character that's not quite a biped (e.g. biped with no head and has a tail). Someone added a request for a Rapid Rig tail option, and something like this would be amazing. I heard you're working on a facial rig of some sort? Anzovin has The Face Machine, too. I haven't used it personally, but it looks like a good product. I personally like to make my face rigs using a combination of blendshapes, joints, and deformers. I also like to have the controls right on the face like on this rig: http://www.joshsobelanimator.com/#!bonnie-rig/c1k6j I haven't updated my site with any new models/rigs yet, but you can check it out at www.aboatman.com. I used Rapid Rig for my senior thesis (https://vimeo.com/43317547), too. Thank you for putting the time into this!

Hi, sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I was on holidays for the past week. The hierarchy is something I haven't spent too much time addressing, but your feedback makes a lot of sense. I am working on a modular rigging tool that works similar to Rapid Rig Advanced, except that it breaks it down into each component (eg. arm, leg, spline, fk chain, look-at) and you can build and attach your own hierarchy. I have been working on it for some time, and obviously with the increased level of complexity and flexibility comes more potential bugs. Currently, I would say it is in alpha with some third-party testing. Once I am done with the modular rig, I plan to start a facial rig system. In the mean time, you can search for the Rapid Rig page on Facebook where I post updates about what is going on with my tools. Feel free to post your senior thesis there for other users to see. It's great! Dustin
