Feature Request

World aligned parent parent control?

Status:pending
Date:01/22/2014
Submitted by:brandelan brandelan
I rigged a quadruped and it'd be nice if I could add a control on top of the root that is world aligned for moving the quadraped's body vertically on the y axis. It'd also be nice if the COG control was world aligned rather than joint aligned. I'd still like to have the root joint point up the spine I think. I'd just like an additional world aligned controller. Is there a way to do this already?

You can orient the COG control any way you like. You just need to adjust it in the proxy stage. By default, it is templated so that it doesn't interfere with selecting the other proxies. To gain access to the COG proxy, select RRM_ROOT and set the "Template COG C" to off. Then counter-rotate it from the hips so that it aligns with world space. If you still want an additional control that is set to world space orientation, generate your rig then select "rigName_ROOTC". Set the attribute "Parent Control" to on. This will unhide a second control that has the same orientation as the hips. You can rotate this control, called "rigName_ROOTParentC", to world space, then counter rotate the hips back to its original orientation. Hopefully that helps! -Dustin

It does, thanks! I will say, though, that it'd be AWESOME if I could set that ROOTParentC orientation separately in the proxy stage so that when I generate the rig, every controller will be at 0. This fix of yours leaves rotation values in my rig when I do the counter orientation.

That's a very simple change, I will add that in the next update. Thanks for the feedback! -Dustin
